Hi! I am Jiawei Xu. You can also call me Jimmy. I am a second-year PhD student in AMSC at the University of Maryland, where I am fortunate to be advised by Prof. Furong Huang. My research focuses on developing mathematically grounded, controllable, and efficient methods for post-training and test-time control of LLM reasoning.

I graduated with honors in Mathematics from NYU in Spring 2025. While there, I had the fortune to work with Prof. Eric Vanden-Eijnden and Prof. Chinmay Hegde.

Besides academics, I love fishing. The biggest fish I’ve ever caught is a 35-pound grass carp in China.
